VMware Infrastructure is the industry’s first full infrastructure virtualization suite
VMware allows enterprises and small businesses alike to transform, manage and optimize their IT systems infrastructure through virtualization. VMware Infrastructure delivers comprehensive virtualization, management, resource optimization, application availability and operational automation capabilities in an integrated offering
VMware vSphere leverages the power of virtualization to transform data-centers into simplified cloud-computing infrastructures and enables IT organizations to deliver flexible and reliable IT services.
VM VSphere virtualizes and aggregates the underlying physical hardware resources across multiple systems and provides pools of virtual resources to the data-center.
VMware Infrastructure includes:
VMware ESX Server – A production-proven virtualization layer run on physical servers that abstract processor, memory, storage and networking resources to be provisioned to multiple virtual machines
Virtual Center Management Server – The central point for configuring, provisioning and managing virtualized IT infrastructure
VMware some features :
VMware VMotion™ – Enables the live migration of running virtual machines from one physical server to another with zero downtime, continuous service availability and complete transaction integrity
VMware High Availability (HA) – Provides easy-to-use, cost-effective high availability for applications running in virtual machines. In the event of server failure, affected virtual machines are automatically restarted on other production servers that have spare capacity
VM vSAN uses a software-defined approach that creates shared storage for virtual machines. It virtualizes the local physical storage resources of ESXi hosts and turns them into pools of storage that can be divided and assigned to virtual machines and applications according to their quality-of-service requirements. vSAN is implemented directly in the ESXi hypervisor.
You can configure vSAN to work as either a hybrid or all-flash cluster. In hybrid clusters, flash devices are used for the cache layer and magnetic disks are used for the storage capacity layer. In all-flash clusters, flash devices are used for both cache and capacity
